Utilizing a set of objective rules for buying and selling is a very common method used by swing traders because the rules eliminate the subjectivity, emotional aspects, and labor-intensive analysis of swing trading. The trading rules can be used to create a predictive market trading algorithm or "trading system" which can be further defined as a calculable set of trading rules that uses either technical analysis and/or fundamental analysis and results in entry and exit price points.
Simpler rule-based trading approaches include Alexander Elder's strategy, which measures the behavior of an instrument's price trend using three different moving averages of closing prices. The instrument is only traded Long when the three averages are aligned in an upward direction, and only traded Short when the three averages are moving downward.[4] Trading algorithms/systems may lose their profit potential when they obtain enough of a mass following to curtail their effectiveness: "Now it's an arms race. Everyone is building more sophisticated algorithms, and the more competition exists, the smaller the profits," observes Andrew Lo, the Director of the Laboratory For Financial Engineering, for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.[5]
Identifying when to enter and when to exit a trade is the primary challenge for all swing trading strategies. However, swing traders do not need perfect timing—to buy at the very bottom and sell at the very top of price oscillations—to make a profit. Small consistent earnings that involve strict money management rules can compound returns significantly. It is generally accepted and understood that all mathematical models or algorithms will not always work with every instrument or in every market situation.Risks in swing trading are commensurate with market speculation in general. Risk of loss in swing trading typically increases in a trading range, or sideways price movement, as compared to a bull market or bear market that is clearly moving in a specific direction.

Examples Of High Frequency Trading Strategies For The Emini Futures 29th Jan 2013 . Sceeto alerts can be surfaced live in your charts in TradeStation, NinjaTrader, Sierracharts and Multicharts you can get a free trial at http://sceeto.com/user/register .In the old days orders were actually telephoned in and floor traders in the pits in the New York Stock exchange and others did the trading for you. Nowdays it is mostly computerized and you the day trader sitting at home can execute orders in seconds but unfortunatly the hfts are evn faster, they can execute trades in milliseconds and be ahead all of the time not only that they have the power to move the markets up or down in an instant. The old indicators you relyed on for confirming a trade can now often be too slow to catch these moves as well as normal technical anayslis. Using sceeto as it is real time not only can it be used to help confirm what the trader is thinking may happen sometimes as order flow moves first before price it can be used to prempt moves. This means you can be on the winning sides of trades a lot more often.
heres the definition of a daytrader courtesy of Wikipedia Creative Commons licence
Day trading refers to the practice of speculation in securities, specifically buying and selling financial instruments within the same trading day, such that all positions are usually closed before the market close for the trading day. Traders who participate in day trading are called active traders or day traders. Traders who trade in this capacity with the motive of profit, assume the capital markets role of speculator.
Not widely known, the correct definition of an "intra-day" means the move as measured from the previous close and not just relative to another price traded on the same day.[citation needed]
Some of the more commonly day-traded financial instruments are stocks, stock options, currencies, and a host of futures contracts such as equity index futures, interest rate futures, and commodity futures.
Day trading used to be an activity that was exclusive to financial firms and professional speculators. Many day traders are bank or investment firm employees working as specialists in equity investment and fund management. However, with the advent of electronic trading and margin trading, day trading has become increasingly popular among at-home traders.Because of the nature of financial leverage and the rapid returns that are possible, day trading can be either extremely profitable or extremely unprofitable, and high-risk profile traders can generate either huge percentage returns or huge percentage losses. Because of the high profits (and losses) that day trading makes possible, these traders are sometimes portrayed as "bandits" or "gamblers" by other investors. Some individuals, however, make a consistent living from day trading.
Nevertheless day trading can be risky, especially if any of the following is present while trading:
trading a loser's game/system rather than a game that's at least winnable,
trading with poor discipline (ignoring your own day trading strategy, tactics, rules),
inadequate risk capital with the accompanying excess stress of having to "survive",
incompetent money management (i.e. executing trades poorly).[2]

Some more text as regards price action courtesy of Wikipedia Creative Commons Licence
The concept of price action trading embodies the analysis of basic price movement as a methodology for financial speculation, as used by many retail traders and often institutionally where algorithmic trading is not employed. Since it ignores the fundamental factors of a security and looks primarily at the security's price history — although sometimes it considers values derived from that price history — it is a form of technical analysis. What differentiates it from most forms of technical analysis is that its main focus is the relation of a security's current price to its past prices as opposed to values derived from that price history. This past history includes swing highs and swing lows, trend lines, and support and resistance levels. At its most simplistic, it attempts to describe the human thought processes invoked by experienced, non-disciplinary traders as they observe and trade their markets.[1][2][3][4] Price action is simply how prices change - the action of price. It is readily observed in markets where liquidity and price volatility are highest, but anything that is bought or sold freely in a market will per se demonstrate price action. Price action trading can be included under the umbrella of technical analysis but is covered here in a separate article because it incorporates the behavioural analysis of market participants as a crowd from evidence displayed in price action - a type of analysis whose academic coverage isn't focused in any one area, rather is widely described and commented on in the literature on trading, speculation, gambling and competition generally. It includes a large part of the methodology employed by floor traders[5] and tape readers.[6] It can also optionally include analysis of volume and level 2 quotes.
The trader observes the relative size, shape, position, growth (when watching the current real-time price) and volume (optionally) of the bars on an OHLC bar or candlestick chart, starting as simple as a single bar, most often combined with chart formations found in broader technical analysis such as moving averages, trend lines or trading ranges.[7][8] The use of price action analysis for financial speculation doesn't exclude the simultaneous use of other techniques of analysis, and on the other hand, a minimalist price action trader can rely completely on the behavioural interpretation of price action to build a trading strategy.
The various authors who write about price action, e.g. Brooks,[8] Duddella,[9] give names to the price action chart formations and behavioural patterns they observe, which may or may not be unique to that author and known under other names by other authors (more investigation into other authors to be done here). These patterns can often only be described subjectively and the idealized formation or pattern can in reality appear with great variation.
This article attempts to outline most major candlestick bars, patterns, chart formations, behavioural observations and trade setups that are used in price action trading. It covers the way that they are interpreted by price action traders, whether they signal likely future market direction, and how the trader would place orders correspondingly to profit from that (and where protective exit orders would be placed to minimise losses when wrong). Since price action traders combine bars, patterns, formations, behaviours and setups together with other bars, patterns, formations etc. to create further setups, many of the descriptions here will refer to other descriptions in the article. The layout of descriptions here is linear, but there is no one perfect sequence - they appear here loosely in the sequence: behavioural observations, trends, reversals and trading ranges. This editing approach reflects the nature of price action, sub-optimal as it might appear.

Do you see the servers in the background in todays daily report video? HFT or high frequency traders have literally buildings full of trading computers or super computers and massive server rooms all dedicated to running their trading algorithms or trading bots as they are also called. Do you think that using your home pc you can compete with that on your own? Well if you answered know you'd be right for several reasons. Firstly it's better to trade with the bots or in other words follow the bots and trade the direction they are going to trade. I hear you ask how well sceeto monitors all the futures and equities markets for footprints left by the trading bots and alert you instantly. The good news is we harness server rooms in the cloud just like theirs except maybe not a whole building full. Our cloud computing servers can crunch thousands of times more data than your pc or trading platform can on it's own and we surface the signals right there in your charts.
There is no lag nor is their any drain of resources either on your internet connection, trading platform or pc as we do all the heavy lifting in the cloud.
You can now get live alerts along with the live data feed you already use, you can finally trade in this hft dominated environment and actually have a chance of making money.

Cloud computing is the use of computing resources (hardware and software) that are delivered as a service over a network (typically the Internet). The name comes from the use of a cloud-shaped symbol as an abstraction for the complex infrastructure it contains in system diagrams. Cloud computing entrusts remote services with a user's data, software and computation.

High Frequency Trading Has Changed The Markets. Daily report for S&P 500 Emini Futures on the 24th January 2013 . The footage we used here to illustrate how the markets used to work is public domain footage The Big Board 1958 courtesy of the Libary Of Congress Prelinger Archive . http://sceeto.com/user/register for a free trial .The markets are forever changed. In the old days as you can see in the film, orders were phoned by you to your broker and then by them to the trading floor and then negotiated between different floor traders before your buy or sell order took place.
Of course every body on the trading floor knew the amount of buy and sell order flow in the market as they were physically there, making it very easy to manipulate markets.
In todays elctronic markets the orders are sent from your pc through your online trading platform to your broker and then are placed in the stock market. Although this only takes seconds nothing has changed, the big traders who in the old days were on the trading floor listening to orders can now with super fast computer driven robot traders or bots place massive buy and sell orders within milliseconds to move the market any way they want. They can for the most part know beforehand how many orders are placed by the ordinary trader like you. They are very hard to beat as they have the advantage.
What sceeto does is place you in a position where for the first time you can track these trading bots in real time, meaning now it is like you are one of those floor traders as in the olden days. You don't have to beat the bots, follow them with sceeto and trade the direction they trade. Sceeto gives you real time alerts and signals when high frequency trading is going on in the markets. While fundamental analysts examine earnings, dividends, new products, research and the like. Technicians also employ many techniques, one of which is the use of charts. Using charts, technical analysts seek to identify price patterns and market trends in financial markets and attempt to exploit those patterns.[10] Technicians use various methods and tools, the study of price charts is but one.
Technicians using charts search for archetypal price chart patterns, such as the well-known head and shoulders or double top/bottom reversal patterns, study technical indicators, moving averages, and look for forms such as lines of support, resistance, channels, and more obscure formations such as flags, pennants, balance days and cup and handle patterns.[11]
Technical analysts also widely use market indicators of many sorts, some of which are mathematical transformations of price, often including up and down volume, advance/decline data and other inputs. These indicators are used to help assess whether an asset is trending, and if it is, the probability of its direction and of continuation. Technicians also look for relationships between price/volume indices and market indicators. Examples include the relative strength index, and MACD. Other avenues of study include correlations between changes in Options (implied volatility) and put/call ratios with price. Also important are sentiment indicators such as Put/Call ratios, bull/bear ratios, short interest, Implied Volatility, etc.
There are many techniques in technical analysis. Adherents of different techniques (for example, candlestick charting, Dow Theory, and Elliott wave theory) may ignore the other approaches, yet many traders combine elements from more than one technique. Some technical analysts use subjective judgment to decide which pattern(s) a particular instrument reflects at a given time and what the interpretation of that pattern should be. Others employ a strictly mechanical or systematic approach to pattern identification and interpretation.
Technical analysis is frequently contrasted with fundamental analysis, the study of economic factors that influence the way investors price financial markets. Technical analysis holds that prices already reflect all such trends before investors are aware of them. Uncovering those trends is what technical indicators are designed to do, imperfect as they may be. Fundamental indicators are subject to the same limitations, naturally. Some traders use technical or fundamental analysis exclusively, while others use both types to make trading decisions.

An artificial neural network, often just called a neural network, is a mathematical model inspired by biological neural networks. A neural network consists of an interconnected group of artificial neurons, and it processes information using a connectionist approach to computation. In most cases a neural network is an adaptive system that changes its structure during a learning phase. Neural networks are used to model complex relationships between inputs and outputs or to find patterns in data.Banks use artificial intelligence systems to organize operations, invest in stocks, and manage properties. In August 2001, robots beat humans in a simulated financial trading competition.[4]
Financial institutions have long used artificial neural network systems to detect charges or claims outside of the norm, flagging these for human investigation.Algorithmic trading, also called automated trading, black-box trading, or algo trading, is the use of electronic platforms for entering trading orders with an algorithm which executes pre-programmed trading instructions whose variables may include timing, price, or quantity of the order, or in many cases initiating the order without human intervention.
Algorithmic trading is widely used by investment banks, pension funds, mutual funds, and other buy-side (investor-driven) institutional traders, to divide large trades into several smaller trades to manage market impact and risk.[1][2] Sell side traders, such as market makers and some hedge funds, provide liquidity to the market, generating and executing orders automatically.
A special class of algorithmic trading is "high-frequency trading" (HFT). Many types of algorithmic or automated trading activities can be described as HFT. As a result, in February 2012, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) formed a special working group that included academics and industry experts to advise the CFTC on how best to define HFT.[3][4] HFT strategies utilize computers that make elaborate decisions to initiate orders based on information that is received electronically, before human traders are capable of processing the information they observe. Algorithmic trading and HFT have resulted in a dramatic change of the market microstructure, particularly in the way liquidity is provided.[5] Algorithmic trading may be used in any investment strategy, including market making, inter-market spreading, arbitrage, or pure speculation (including trend following). The investment decision and implementation may be augmented at any stage with algorithmic support or may operate completely automatically.

High Frequency trading Smart Versus Dumb Money Jan 17th 2013 Daily Report.
http://sceeto.com/user/register register here for a free trial and try sceeto for yourself . As highlighted in previous videos, there is the concept of retail versus Institutional sometimes called smart money versus dumb money again comes into play. Whilst not always wrong quite often retail will often be wrong at very crucial times, thats even more of a reason to have real time indicators like sceeto. Not only does it monitor all the order flow and high frequency trading or hft but it shows you what way retail ois trading and also what way Institutional is trading. When you see a significant difference between these two and your indicators are pointing in the same direction as the big traders then it usually makes more sense to trade in that direction and not lose out.
We have a great free trial so you can see for yourself http://sceeto.com/user/register
"Trapped traders" is a common price action term referring to traders who have entered the market on weak signals, or before signals were triggered, or without waiting for confirmation and who find themselves in losing positions because the market turns against them. Any price action pattern that the traders used for a signal to enter the market is considered 'failed' and that failure becomes a signal in itself to price action traders, e.g. failed breakout, failed trend line break, failed reversal. It is assumed that the trapped traders will be forced to exit the market and if in sufficient numbers, this will cause the market to accelerate away from them, thus providing an opportunity for the more patient traders to benefit from their duress.[14]
Since many traders place protective stop orders to exit from positions that go wrong, all the stop orders placed by trapped traders will provide the orders that boost the market in the direction that the more patient traders bet on. The phrase "the stops were run" refers to the execution of these stop orders.
A pull-back is a move where the market interrupts the prevailing trend,[19] or retraces from a breakout, but does not retrace beyond the start of the trend or the beginning of the breakout. A pull-back which does carry on further to the beginning of the trend or the breakout would instead become a reversal[13] or a breakout failure.
In a long trend, a pull-back oftens last for long enough to form legs like a normal trend and to behave in other ways like a trend too. Like a normal trend, a long pull-back often has 2 legs.[13] Price action traders expect the market to adhere to the two attempts rule and will be waiting for the market to try to make a second swing in the pull-back, with the hope that it fails and therefore turns around to try the opposite - i.e. the trend resumes.
One price action technique for following a pull-back with the aim of entering with-trend at the end of the pull-back is to count the new higher highs in the pull-back of a bull trend, or the new lower lows in the pull-back of a bear, i.e. in a bull trend, the pull-back will be composed of bars where the highs are successively lower and lower until the pattern is broken by a bar that puts in a high higher than the previous bar's high, termed an H1 (High 1). L1s (Low 1) are the mirror image in bear trend pull-backs.
If the H1 doesn't result in the end of the pull-back and a resumption of the bull trend, then the market creates a further sequence of bars going lower, with lower highs each time until another bar occurs with a high that's higher than the previous high. This is the H2. And so on until the trend resumes, or until the pull-back has become a reversal or trading range.

If you don't know high frequency trading now is responsible for over 70% of all trades daily in the USA alone. The big traders use complex computer code or algorythims also called trading bots to place massive buy and sell orders within seconds thus controlling the way the market moves.
How can a small trader trade against that? The answer is don't, trade in the direction they trade when they trade, we help you do that by alerting you as to whether they are buying or selling instantly in your charts. You have more than likely never used a set of indicators like sceeto as it's very unique and designed specifically to sniff out the bots and follow them, letting you know the moment they are detected.

High Frequency Trading Alerts In NinjaTrader - Tradestation - SierraChar...
If you trade the S&P 500 Emini Futures, or trade the Nasdaq, Dow Jones, Rusell mini futures, or if you trade Forex and Crude Oil you need to check out www.sceeto.com for one of the worlds most advanced indicators. A no obligation Free Trial is availible.www.sceeto.com
High Frequency Trading Alerts In NinjaTrader - Tradestation - SierraCharts - And - Multicharts. This is the daily report for the 15th january 2013 for trading the S&P 500 Emini Futures. http://sceeto.com/user/register Sceeto is a set of the most unique indicators you will ever see. Whatever the trading platform you use you can get live alerts when the big banks or Institutional traders are trading or indeed when there is hft or high frequency trading activity.
The hft's are algorthims that are referred to as trading bots as they are coded to do certain tasks to move the market whatever way the Institutional trader wants.
They now account for over 70% of all daily trae activity and thats why it's so important that you as a trader can track them in real time. Thats what sceeto does it tells you when and what way they are moving helping you to either join in a trade or keep you out of a potentially losing one.
if you look at our video you will see how often the Institutional is going up when retail or the small trader is going down. This is also important to track as quite often the small trader is wrong as regards a lot of big moves as the big banks etc can turn the market so fast.
Please visit our site and check out some of our other example videos and whatever you do please at least try out our indicators by going to http://sceeto.com/user/register
We have packages for all four platforms mentioned and the markets we cover are the Emini the Dow YM , the Russell TF , Gold, Dax, Crude Oil, Stoxx 50 and not forgeting forex futures the Euro USD 6E futures which is really popular.

High-frequency trading has taken place at least since 1999, after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) authorized electronic exchanges in 1998. At the turn of the 21st century, HFT trades had an execution time of several seconds, whereas by 2010 this had decreased to milli- and even microseconds.[19] Until recently, high-frequency trading was a little-known topic outside the financial sector, with an article published by the New York Times in July 2009 being one of the first to bring the subject to the public's attention.[20]
Market growth
In the early 2000s, high-frequency trading still accounted for fewer than 10% of equity orders, but this proportion was soon to begin rapid growth. According to data from the NYSE, trading volume grew by about 164% between 2005 and 2009 for which high-frequency trading might be accounted.[20] As of the first quarter in 2009, total assets under management for hedge funds with high-frequency trading strategies were $141 billion, down about 21% from their peak before the worst of the crises.[21] The high-frequency strategy was first made successful by Renaissance Technologies.[22] Many high-frequency firms are market makers and provide liquidity to the market which has lowered volatility and helped narrow Bid-offer spreads, making trading and investing cheaper for other market participants.[21] In the United States, high-frequency trading firms represent 2% of the approximately 20,000 firms operating today, but account for 73% of all equity orders volume.[23] The largest high-frequency trading firms in the US include names like Getco LLC, Knight Capital Group, Jump Trading, and Citadel LLC. The Bank of England estimates similar percentages for the 2010 US market share, also suggesting that in Europe HFT accounts for about 40% of equity orders volume and for Asia about 5-10%, with potential for rapid growth.[19] By value, HFT was estimated in 2010 by consultancy Tabb Group to make up 56% of equity trades in the US and 38% in Europe.[24]

Scalpers attempt to act like traditional market makers or specialists. To make the spread means to buy at the Bid price and sell at the Ask price, in order to gain the bid/ask
difference. This procedure allows for profit even when the bid and ask don't move at all, as long as there are traders who are willing to take market prices. It normally involves establishing and liquidating a position quickly, usually within minutes or even seconds.
The role of a scalper is actually the role of market makers or specialists who are to maintain the liquidity and order flow of a product of a market. Computerization of the order flow in financial markets began in the early 1970s, with some landmarks being the introduction of the New York Stock Exchange's "designated order turnaround" system (DOT, and later SuperDOT), which routed orders electronically to the proper trading post, which executed them manually. The "opening automated reporting system" (OARS) aided the specialist in determining the market clearing opening price (SOR; Smart Order Routing).
Program trading is defined by the New York Stock Exchange as an order to buy or sell 15 or more stocks valued at over US$1 million total. In practice this means that all program trades are entered with the aid of a computer. In the 1980s program trading became widely used in trading between the S&P500 equity and futures markets.
Algorithmic trading, also called automated trading, black-box trading, or algo trading, is the use of electronic platforms for entering trading orders with an algorithm which executes pre-programmed trading instructions whose variables may include timing, price, or quantity of the order, or in many cases initiating the order without human intervention.

High-frequency trading (HFT) is the use of sophisticated technological tools and computer algorithms to trade securities on a rapid basis.[1][2][3]
HFT usually uses proprietary trading strategies that are carried out by computers. Unlike regular investing, an investment position in HFT may be held for only seconds, or fractions of a second (though sometimes it may extend to longer), with the computer trading in and out of positions thousands or tens of thousands of times a day.[4] At the end of a day of HFT, there is no open position in the market. Firms engaged in HFT rely heavily on the processing speed of their trades, and on their access to the market. Many high-frequency traders provide liquidity and price discovery to the markets through market-making and arbitrage trading; and high-frequency traders also take liquidity to manage risk or lock in profits.[5]
High-frequency traders compete on a basis of speed with other high-frequency traders, not long-term investors (who typically look for opportunities over a period of weeks, months, or years), and compete for very small, consistent profits.[6][7] As a result, high-frequency trading has been shown to have a potential Sharpe ratio (measure of reward per unit of risk) thousands of times higher than the traditional buy-and-hold strategies.[8]
Aiming to capture just a fraction of a penny per share or currency unit on every trade, high-frequency traders move in and out of such short-term positions several times each day. Fractions of a penny accumulate fast to produce significantly positive results at the end of every day.[2] High-frequency trading firms do not employ significant leverage, do not accumulate positions, and typically liquidate their entire portfolios on a daily basis.[7]
By 2010 high-frequency trading accounted for over 70% of equity trades in the US and was rapidly growing in popularity in Europe and Asia.[citation needed]

There are two major types of day traders: institutional and retail. Both types of individuals or entities are speculators, as opposed to investors. An institutional day trader is a speculator who works for a financial institution. This type of trader has certain advantages over retail traders as he generally has access to more resources, tools, equipment, large amounts of capital and leverage, large availability of fresh fund inflows to trade continuously on the markets, dedicated and direct lines to data centers and exchanges, expensive and high-end trading and analytical software, support teams to help and more. All these advantages give them certain edges over retail day traders.[1]A retail day trader is a speculator who works for himself, or in partnership with a few other traders. A retail trader generally trades with his own capital, though he may also trade with other people's money. Law has restricted the amount of other people's money a retail trader can manage. In the United States, day traders may not advertise as advisors or financial managers. Although not required, nearly all retail day traders use direct access brokers as they offer the fastest order entry and to the exchanges, as well as superior software trading platforms. In the past, most day traders were institutional traders due to the huge advantages they had over retail traders. However, since the technology boom in the second half of the 1990s, advances in personal computing and communications technology, realized in the accessibility of powerful personal computers and the Internet, have brought fast online trading and powerful market analytical tools to the mainstream. Low, affordable commissions from discount brokers as well as regulation improvements in favor of retail traders have also helped level the trading playing field, making success as a retail trader a possibility for many and a reality for some.
An auto trader is the person who does auto-trading, which stands for automated trading and the use of computer programs and other tools to enter trading orders. Because this all happens with the help of the computer algorithm it is also called algorithmic trading.[2]

This webinar is about Tape Reading...Modern Tape Reading.
The markets have changed since the days of yore. Standard Technical Analysis simply does not work when the Trading Bots are flinging the market around.
This webinar is about exposing you to the possibility of Following The Bots.
This webinar is about exploiting the Achilles Heel of the Trading Bots and the Quant\Hedge\HFT community.
As Day Traders we will never be able to compete with execution speed and massive trading resources of Goldman Sachs, or Citadel, or Renaissance Technologies, or UBS, and know what they are about to do or why -- but...we can follow their footprints and piggy-back their trades.
We can latch onto their thrust, which is the force that drives short-term price moves.
